  1. Endrime releases the 120-page selvedge construction guide this month; the 600-page wash manual follows in November.

  2. The wash book documents 75 unique denim washes with full recipes, photos, processes and videos.

  3. Mohsin Sajid, Endrime co-founder and denim lecturer for over 20 years, authored the selvedge guide.

  4. Sponsors include Tonello, Officina39, Cone Denim, Kaihara Denim, Orta and Artistic Milliners.

  5. The selvedge jean pattern is based on a 1937 fit with a one-piece fly dating to 1877.

A 600-page denim wash manual lands in November. Endrime, the U.K.-based denim agency, will follow it this month with a 120-page guide to single-needle selvedge construction. Together the two books target a documented training gap in denim finishing — a subject no university or fashion course currently covers.

What does the first book contain?

"How to Make a Pair of Selvedge Jeans" arrives first, this month. Mohsin Sajid, Endrime co-founder, wrote and illustrated it. The book walks through construction of a 5-pocket selvedge jean based on a 1937 fit. That pattern carries a one-piece fly design dating to 1877. The method uses single-needle construction throughout. No serger. No overlock.

Sajid has lectured on denim for more than 20 years. He called the book his "magnum opus" and said the technique is the "benchmark in premium denim, now recorded for preservation and denim education." His sharper claim concerns access: "Most of this knowledge is gatekept," he said.

That word — gatekept — is the commercial point. Construction know-how of this grade normally moves inside factories or through apprenticeship, not through retail publishing. Endrime is betting designers will pay to shortcut that path. Whether a 120-page manual transfers a craft skill normally learned at a machine remains untested. The book covers both industrial and domestic sewing machines, which widens its addressable audience beyond factory staff.

What does the wash manual add?

"Born to Fade – Raw to Washed Denim" follows in November. Zennure Danışman, a denim wash and marketing expert, wrote the 600-page volume. It documents 75 unique washes — vintage and modern finishes, coatings, garment dye, stone washing. Each wash carries a full recipe with photos, processes and videos.

The book also covers the treatments now standard in industrial laundries: laser and ozone. It names machinery, industrial washing methods and key chemicals.

Danışman framed the recipes in production terms. "In a way, we are cooking in the laundry; our ingredients are water, chemistry, air, heat, machines, fabric, time, and a lot of human instinct," she said. That last ingredient is the caveat. Recipes transfer; instinct does not. A designer who reads 75 washes still cannot dial in a laundry without floor experience.

The skills argument is concrete, though. Sajid said finishing knowledge currently arrives only on the job. "Denim washing and finishing is a specialist subject, which can be overwhelming for many and a daunting, intimidating task for many young and established designers," he said. "This book will serve as a guide and resource for denim designers and beginners in the denim industry."

Who is backing it?

Endrime describes the wash book as first of its kind, and lists its industry supporters:

  • Tonello, Officina39, Howa, Garmon — machinery and chemicals
  • Kaiser Tekstil, Indigo Textiles — mills and processing
  • Artistic Milliners, Cone Denim, Kaihara Denim, Orta — fabric and garment makers
  • HMS, CleanKore, The CC — finishing technology and support

Ereks Blue Matters made all garments featured in the book.

The sponsor list reads as a supply-chain map rather than a fan club. Machinery and chemical suppliers benefit directly when designers arrive understanding wash recipes. That alignment does not invalidate the content. It does mean the featured processes will favour sponsor technologies. Readers comparing laser platforms or chemical systems should note whose equipment appears on the page.

For sourcing teams and design departments, the decision is straightforward: these books offer the first published, recipe-level reference for a finishing discipline previously learned on the floor. Buy them as training material, not as a substitute for laundry-floor time.
