Levi Strauss & Co raised its fiscal 2026 adjusted diluted EPS guidance to $1.54–$1.56, up from $1.46–$1.52, after tariff refunds under the IEEPA drove a 450-basis-point jump in Q3 gross margin to 66.2%.
The company reported net revenues of $1.6bn for the third quarter ended 30 August, with international and wholesale divisions offsetting a softer US performance. Net income from continuing operations rose to $169m from $122m a year earlier, and operating margin expanded to 13.8% from 10.8%.
For vendors and sourcing teams reading the numbers, the margin story matters more than the top line. Much of the profitability gain traces to IEEPA tariff refunds, with roughly $60m set to be redeployed into the business — about $35m of it in the fourth quarter. That reinvestment is already visible in the cost base: selling, general and administrative expenses climbed to $836m, which the company attributed to higher selling and distribution costs plus the redeployment of refund proceeds.
How did the segments perform?
The quarter split sharply along geographic and channel lines:
- Americas revenue up 4% on a reported basis, but US revenue slipped 1%
- Europe up 4%; Asia up 5%, with organic growth in Asia reaching 10%
- Wholesale revenues grew 6%, with notable gains in Europe and Asia
- Direct-to-consumer revenue rose 2%, with e-commerce up 10%
- DTC comparable sales were flat; DTC accounted for 45% of total quarterly revenues
- Beyond Yoga posted a 9% revenue increase
What did management say about the DTC shortfall?
LS&Co president and CEO Michelle Gass said: "We saw strong growth in our international and wholesale businesses, and continued momentum across our lifestyle categories. While our direct-to-consumer business fell short of our internal expectations, we moved quickly to address the shortfall and are encouraged by the strength we are seeing heading into the holiday season, including in the US."
She added: "Based on the acceleration in recent trends, our DTC business is on track to deliver mid-single-digit growth in the fourth quarter."
What does the revised FY26 outlook contain?
The guidance changes cut across revenue, margin and earnings:
- Reported net revenue growth of approximately 7%, narrowed from the earlier 7.0%–7.5% range due to continued foreign exchange pressures
- Organic net revenue growth of around 6%, the top end of the previous 5.5%–6.0% projection
- Gross margin expansion of 130 basis points year-on-year, revised sharply upward from a prior estimate of 10 basis points
- Adjusted diluted EPS of $1.54–$1.56, with the revision factoring in the IEEPA refund impact
Diluted EPS from continuing operations rose to $0.43 from $0.31 in the quarter, and adjusted diluted EPS improved to $0.48 from $0.34. Adjusted EBIT margin reached 15.5% against 11.8% a year earlier.
What does this mean for sourcing decisions?
The report should be read as a compliance-and-cash event as much as a trading update. The margin expansion rests substantially on IEEPA tariff refunds — a policy-dependent benefit, not an operating-cost gain — and the company is choosing to recycle those proceeds into SG&A rather than bank them as margin. Suppliers and sourcing partners should expect the redeployed spend to sustain near-term demand for marketing, distribution and channel investment, while the underlying geography signal — Asia organic growth of 10% against a 1% US decline — continues to point purchasing weight toward international sourcing and wholesale-led markets.
